The Great Orme

A magnificent peninsula situated to the west of Llandudno. Access is via a day time toll road (Marine Drive) which circumnavigates the Orme in an anti clockwise direction. Parking even in high season did not seem to be a problem but as evening approached and the toll man went home the roads seemed to get quite crowded, particularly around Dive Dive Dive. Some areas are banned due to a recent survey report which suggested that the limestone was only inches thick and dangerous, other areas are banned because of seasonal restrictions and some areas are banned due to, well you get the picture. The toll keeper was totally uninformed as to the fact that climbing went on at the Great Orme at all!!

There is probably enough rock on the Orme for a lifetime and a recent rock guide such as the fax08 is a must just to find some of the best routes whilst on a short weekend trip.
