Click on the photos below to enlarge. GR743790. Hound Tor is a pleasant little walk from a small car park situated on
the B3387 road between Bovey Tracey and Widecombe. In the summer there
is a Hot Dog van parked in the car park, you cannot miss it.
Map Walk up the gentle slope to the crag and on you right is a small
separated block with a fine but small selection of good climbs. Beyond
this block is an avenue flanked on the right by the Western Block and on
the left is Hound Head Rock. Hound Tor makes for a good bouldering venue
with climbs ranging from Vdiffs to 6b/c. Beyond the Tor is a small
medieval village and in the distance Low Man can easily be seen though
it is a fair walk for a boulderer like me.

The Perched Block holds some good but short bouldering on its western wall but out to the right and the south facing wall is a good three star VS which is a bold solo. Suspension Flake VS 4c. Start on easy ground and move out right and gain height fast as the ground drops away down the slope. Follow the crack out right to a bold swing then up a small crack to a rounded finish.
The Hounds Head Block holds the famous Pulpit VD, Climb the chunky little blocks to a good finish though it is not quite so easy to get down, On the right of an obvious corner is the Paddy M and Liars Dice S which takes the crack just left of a perched block in the middle of the wall, a bit more intimidating than it looks.
At the other end of the Western Block is a small isolated boulder called Top Hat, there are some great problems here from Vdiff upwards.
Below are some other problems on Hound Tor. Sorry but i cannot remember their names, maybe you can help.
